ParticipantSetting up a GMP-compliant cannabis testing lab is no small feat—it’s a balancing act between technical requirements, regulatory demands, and keeping everything running smoothly. You’ve got to keep the five P’s of GMP in mind: People, Premises, Processes, Products, and Procedures.
Here’s a checklist to guide you:
1. People:
Train your team on cannabis testing and GMP regulations
Make sure your staff understands SOPs and compliance requirements2. Premises:
Equip the lab with HPLC/GC, pesticide and solvent testing tools, and microbiological test kits, etc., depending on the scope of testing services you offer
Ensure the space supports clean, safe operations3. Processes:
Validate your testing systems and document protocols
Write clear SOPs for each test and procedure
Track everything—from samples to results4. Products:
Handle samples according to GMP
Generate COAs for every batch
Regularly test for consistency5. Procedures:
Set up a routine for equipment maintenance and sanitation
Conduct internal and external GMP audits
Keep the team trained and up to dateYou will need a good LIMS in place to handle all this. Make sure your LIMS is able to help you automate and scale your processes, enforce SOPs, and tie in all the GMP requirements.
