ParticipantYes, I have encountered some challenges:
Ensuring compliance requires documented training and/or experience in QA/QC procedures and the laboratory’s quality system for personnel. Documenting thorough and accessible records of training, keeping personnel updated on evolving QA/QC procedures, and demonstrating practical competency are some of the challenges. Moreover, documenting not only the completion of training but also the practical application of the knowledge and skills acquired can be challenging.
Laboratories are also required to set appropriate and realistic QC limits. The challenge lies in striking a balance between using specified limits when available and establishing reasonable limits when not provided in methods, permits, or regulations. The requirement to develop limits based on statistically determined factors and document the process adds complexity. Additionally, the need for laboratories to ensure they can pass Proficiency Tests (PTs) acts as a safeguard against the setting of impractical QC limits, aiming to maintain the integrity and accuracy of laboratory results. Finding this balance and addressing stakeholder concerns while complying with the standard presents a challenge in establishing QC limits that are both realistic and defensible under scrutiny.
Internal audits can be too much work considering that comprehensive internal audits require dedicated resources, both in terms of personnel and time. What’s more, NELAC compliance often involves meticulous documentation of procedures, processes, and quality control measures. The complexity of maintaining and updating this documentation for internal audits can be overwhelming. Lastly, balancing the need for internal audits with day-to-day operations can be a logistical challenge.
